Georgia: The Education and Science Committee of the Parliament listened to the representatives of the higher educational institutions that implement the “1+4 educational program” within the framework of the ongoing thematic research on access to quality education for ethnic minorities.

“1+4 educational program” envisages the passing of the general skills test in Armenian, Azeri, Abkhazian, and Ossetian languages ​​and the possibility of studying the state language and obtaining higher education in case of accumulation of appropriate points.

During the meeting, the issues of access to quality education for ethnic minorities were discussed. Problems and needs in the mentioned direction were discussed. Also, the steps to be taken in order to increase the effectiveness of the “1+4 educational program” were reviewed.

According to the main speaker of the thematic research group, Khatuna Kvitsiani, important challenges in terms of improving the program were highlighted at the meeting.

“We met with representatives of universities that implement the “1+4 educational program” for ethnic minorities. They shared their assessments and specific visions. We talked in detail about the steps to be taken to improve the effectiveness of the program”, said Khatuna Kvitsian.

Within the framework of thematic research, the committee has already held field meetings in Samtskhe-Javakheti and Kvemo Kartli regions.

The thematic research is carried out with the support of the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and with the financial support of UK aid from the Great Britain government.
