The Adjara region of Georgia has received heavy snowfall in the last few days. Due to heavy snowfall many roads have been blocked in Highland Adjara. The workers of the local municipality and disaster wing are working round the clock to remove the snow and make the road accessible as early as possible.
People have been forced by the bad weather to stay indoors. The road cleaning works have been resumed from the morning. continuous storm clearing works are also ongoing in other regions of the area, including Batumi and Kobuleti.
To address the emergency situation caused by the snowfall, there was a meeting of Emergency Management at its main headquarters, which was held under the leadership of the Adjara Government Chairman Tornike Rizhvadz.
During the significant meeting, the head of the government, Tornike Rizhvadz, and another attendee of the meeting got themself acquainted with the work of cleaning the roads from heavy rainfall in highland Adjara.
As per the ground reports, the Snow cleaning works are actively underway in Khulo, Shuakhevi, Kedi and Khelvachauri municipalities as well. The cleaning of the roads leading to administrative centres has started.
The work process includes special equipment of the Department of Roads and municipalities. Motorways are gradually cleaned in all directions. There are expectations that the traffic on most roads will be normal very soon.
It is to be specifically mentioned that Road cleaning works in Highland Adjara have been resumed from the morning after some disruption due to adverse weather conditions. Non-stop rescue and rehabilitation works in Batumi and Kobuleti are going in full swing.
Meanwhile, for the easy facilities of the local residents, a dedicated emergency situation management headquarters has been created in all the municipalities. These headquarters will work as an information centre as well.
People who have been affected by the poor weather can approach these centres for solutions to their problems and to get timely relief as well.
All government offices and services are working in a coordinated manner with mutual cooperation in order to overcome the difficulties caused by the inclement weather effectively,” – said Tornike Rizhvadze.
The meeting was attended by the mayors of the municipality, the head of the road department, the emergency management authority and representatives. Meanwhile, City Hall services work in emergency mode.
Many heavy machines were engaged by the municipality to remove the snow from the road. The poor weather conditions were causing some problems with rehabilitation work. Roads have become very slippery due to which driving the snow removing machinery also become a little risky.
The local officials also inspected some roads. They visited the snow-filled roads to take stock of the ground-level situations and difficulties being faced by common citizens.
During the meeting, all their attendees stressed the speedy rehabilitation work. They also highlighted the problems of travellers and called for making some effort so that people could get some services online.
Some local residents expressed satisfaction with the work of snow removal and other relief work. However, there were some people who demanded that more labour and machinery be deployed to complete the work in a short span of time.
