In Russia, the authorities said it fired high-precision cruise missiles at Ukrainian military targets in northwest Zhytomyr on Saturday.
At a daily briefing in Moscow, Defense Ministry spokesperson Igor Konashenkov said that Kalibr missiles were used to demolish an ammunition stockpile in the Velyki Korovyntsi settlement, and Onyx missiles were used to attack gasoline storage in Mykolaiv city.
He also claimed that Russian air defence systems shot down three Ukrainian fighter jets, two Su-25 and one Su-24, as well as six unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and a Tochka-U ballistic missile near the Vyshneve settlement.
“In total, 207 anti-aircraft missile systems, 267 unmanned aerial vehicles, 1,618 tanks and other armoured combat vehicles, 662 field artillery and mortar guns, 166 multiple rocket launchers and 1,453 units of special military vehicles have been damaged since the beginning of the special military operation in Ukraine,” the spokesman said.
Konashenkov went on to say that Russia has attacked 117 military targets in Ukraine, including six command centres, three multiple rocket launchers, one S-300 air defence system, and 11 warehouses.
The war between Russia and Ukraine, which began on February 24, has sparked international outrage, with the EU, the United States, and the United Kingdom, among others, imposing strong financial sanctions on Moscow.
According to UN estimates, at least 1,081 civilians have been killed in Ukraine and 1,707 injured, with the true toll feared to be far higher.
According to the UN refugee agency, more than 3.7 million Ukrainians have also fled to neighbouring countries, with millions more displaced inside the country.
