Tbilisi: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov defended Georgia’s foreign agent’s law. The Georgian parliament adopted the controversial law despite the President vetoed it.

Today  while interacting with the Russian media he added that there is nothing wrong with Georgia’s adoption of the Foreign Agents Law. He also said that this is Georgia’s internal matter and no country has the right to interfere in the internal affairs of any country. The Russian foreign minister also accused the U.S., Poland, France, and “many other countries” of forcefully imposing Georgia’s LGBTQ agenda.

During the same meeting the Russian Minister also discussed the developments in occupied Abkhazia and stressed that more efforts must be made in the future. Speaking further about the development he said that “The Georgian government is doing whatever is necessary to uplift the old values of the country. The steps taken by Georgia also confirm that Georgian people now come to understand the values of Orthodoxy and national culture  which may be eroded in case of any negligence.”

The minister also spoke about the 2005 agreement, which called for Russia to withdraw its last military bases from Georgia. According to the minister, Georgia’s case is very exemplary.Lavrov underlined Russia’s recent decision to suspend assistance to occupied territories. Russia take this decision  when the region’s administration de facto adopted the controversial “Apartment Law.”

The minister said that there are many agreements between both sides  Moscow and Sokhumi  and both sides recognize the importance of these agreements. On the other hand critics of foreign agents  law once again said that the Russian minister statement showed how Russia influences the law.

They also said that our concerns were genuine as we already termed foreign agents’ law as Russian law. This law has every ability to stifle independent media voices. As per foreign agent law the NGO and CSO are required to register with government authorities if they are receiving more than 20 percent of funds from any foreign country.
