Rustavi, Georgia: The Mayor of Rustavi, Nino Latsabidze, and Irakli Shatakishvili, delegate of Rustavi and Garabani historical villages in the Georgian Parliament, met with successful Rustavi athletes and their coaches. They both congratulated the athletes on their success at the European and World Championships.
The Mayor of Rustavi, Nino Latsabidze, shared the glimpses of their meeting on her official Facebook page on July 31, 2025, Thursday. The Mayor also shared a small note congratulating the Rustaveli athletes on their success, along with the photographs.
Nino Latsabidze, in her note, stated, ” Congratulations to our Rustavi athletes, Alexi Tsivtsivadze, Sandro Megrelishvili, Giorgi Kakhidze, and Saba Sulamanidze for their success in international tournaments.”
“These guys, once again, represented our city and country at the European and World Championships. Promoting sport, both at the municipal and state level, is one of the precursors for the success of our athletes,” she added.
Furthermore, the mayor also said that their main goal is to get as many young people interested in sports as possible, to create decent conditions for the athletes, and that their work is always appreciated properly.
Notably, the Deputy Mayor of Rustavi, Otari Tatalashvili, and the Head of the Sports Development Center, Giorgi Demetrashvili, attended the meeting held at the Sports Palace.
Nino Latsabidze and Irakli Shatakishvili congratulated Alexander Tsivtsivadze, Sandro Megrelishvili, Giorgi Kakhidze, and Saba Sulamanidze for successful competitions at European and World Championships and gave symbolic gifts.
Aleksandre Tsivtsivadze of Rustaveli Nichbosan won a silver medal in the 500-meter distance, 200-meter distance and bronze medal in European Championship among juniors and under-23 in Baskov, Romania.
Aleksandre Tsivtsivadze successfully competed in the World Championship, in Canoe Sprint, between Juniors and Under 23, where in the 500-meter distance, in qualifying swimming, he took first place and qualified for the final.
Athletes from Rustavi won prizes in the World Mixed Martial Arts and Taekwondo, European Paralympic Championships.
Sandro Megrelishvili won a silver medal in Taekwondo at the European Youth Paralympic Games. Giorgi Kakhidze in mixed martial arts, among youth, became the silver medalist of the World Championship, and Saba Sulamanidze won the third place and the bronze medal.
All four athletes, for their sporting success, will receive increased scholarships from Rustavi City Hall every month.
