Sagarejo Municipality, Georgia: The Mayor of Sagarejo Municipality, Avtandil Gulikashvili, attended an event dedicated to International Theater Day on 28 March, 2025. The event was held in a small hall of the House of Culture to present awards to the members of the theatre club for their performance.

It is to be noted that the Mayor was accompanied by the Chairman of the City Council, Alexi Gilashvili. The dignitaries congratulated the members of the Public Theater troupe and the creative team on their professional day and presented symbolic awards for their success and contribution to the development of art.
Mayor Avtandil Gulikashvili wished that the actors of the Sagarejo Public Theater continue to perform many more performances on the stage, in a better and appropriate environment, for the Sagarejo audience, and to be able to constantly realize their boundless talent and abilities.
He further added that the members of the public theatre started working in the cultural and artistic sphere in recent years and that this field needs more support and the creation of appropriate conditions. Mayor said that he is waiting with them for a new play, on the big stage, with warm applause and the accompaniment of a loyal audience.
The event was also attended by the Chairman of the Theater Union, Gogi Gegechkori, the Deputy Mayor of the Municipality, Giorgi Laliashvili, and representatives of the local self-government.
International Theatre Day
International Theatre Day is celebrated annually on 27 March. It was initiated in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute (ITI). The most important event on this day is that at an invitation of ITI, a renowned personality shares his or her reflections on the theme of Theatre and a Culture of Peace.
The very first International Theatre Day message was written by Jean Cocteau (France) in 1962. In 2024, the international message was written by Samiha Ayoub, an Egyptian actress who is not only active in theatre, but also in the world of cinema and television.
