Philip J Pierre, The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia has congratulated sprinter Julien Alfred on her achievement. She set a new world record at the 2024 Millrose Games held in New York by finishing 60 meters in 6.99 seconds. Shashalee Forbes of Jamaica finished as runner-up with 7.14 seconds.
It should be specifically mentioned that the previous world record was held by Ewa Swoboda of Poland. Ewa Swoboda scored this feat just a few days ago on February 6.
Prime Minister Philip J Pierre also took to his social media handles to extend his best wishes to Julien Alfred. In a Facebook post he wrote that “It is a proud moment for all of us as our fellow citizen achievement a remarkable victory at Millrose Games”.
The PM also stated in a Facebook post that “As we countdown to Independence 45, Julien Alfred continues to inspire us as Saint Lucians. I would like to invite you to join me in congratulating Ms Alfred on her latest win, 6.99 seconds in the 60M at Millrose Games, breaking the record of 7.00 seconds set in 1994”.
Many social media users also congratulated Julien Alfred. Ingrid Gabriel commented, “Ingrates Julien Alfred you have done us proud. Continue to shine and inspire . Bravo, Bravo”. Another user Martin Francis-Monrose, while commenting wrote “Congratulations Ms Julien Alfred, keep shining on the tracks young lady. We are proud of you and your accomplished keep giving it your best”.
Many social and youth organization also extended their best wishes to Julien Alfred. On the other hand the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports of Saint Lucia also congratulated Julien Alfred. As per the Sports Ministry, she is an inspiration for the country’s youth.
Additionally The Ministry of Youth Development and Sports has shortlisted Alfred along with two other senior women for the prestigious Sportswoman of the Year award for 2034-2024, which is scheduled for February 17, 2024.
