Castries, Saint Lucia: The Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J Pierre, extended a word of strength for the grief-struck family, friends and relatives of the renowned journalist, Guy Ellis, who died on February 13, 2023, following a heart attack. Ellis was with his family when he suffered a heart attack and was declared dead as they reached the hospital.
Prime Minister Pierre took to Facebook, where he paid condolences to the family of Guy Ellis, writing:
“To the family and friends of Guy Ellis, I extend my deepest condolences to you on the loss of your beloved one. Death always makes us pause and reflect. Similarly, my memories bring me to our younger days as we grew up on the Water Works Road, filled with ambitions and endless pursuits.
I pray that you find comfort in the work that Guy has shared with this nation, being a journalist, and recording nation’s history for future generations. May his soul rest in peace.”
Notably, Guy Ellis had a commendable career in the field of journalism, to which he dedicated more than sixty years of his life.
Ellis had started his career as a really young news reporter as he served for The Voice in May 1962. Later, he was promoted to the Managing Editor of two big newspapers, namely The Voice and The Mirror.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Ernest Hilaire, also paid tributes over the death of Ellis. He also hailed the authenticity of the standards of Journalism Ellis upheld throughout his career and termed him as the role model for aspiring journalists in Saint Lucia.
