Castries, Saint Lucia: The Deputy Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Ernest Hilaire, congratulated the Saint Lucian athlete, Julien Alfred for completing the 60M Sprint in 6.97 seconds., thereby breaking her own previous record 0f 7.00 seconds, set earlier this month.
The record-breaking sprint from the athlete came during the 2023 Big 12 Indoor Championships. With this record, Alfred has now become the 8th fastest sprinter in history as she broke the NCAA Collegiate record for three times in a row.
In addition to this feat, Julien Alfred emerged victorious in the 200M race, which she had completed in 22.6 seconds. Notably, this is the second-fastest NCAA time ever and the fourth-fastest time in the world all time.
Ernest Hilaire, on his Facebook account, wrote that “Further congratulations are also in order for Julien Alfred as she wins the 200M race in 22.26 seconds. Continue making your country proud.”
Texas senior Julien Alfred added the 200m title to the 60m crown she already won at the Big 12 Indoor Championships at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock Texas.
The 2022 Commonwealth Games 100m silver medallist, who ran 6.97, a new personal best and NCAA and national record, to win the 60m earlier on Saturday, showed the same awesome form to set a new meet record in the 200m as well.
The 21-year-old ran 22.26, another personal best, to win comfortably ahead of teammate Lanae Thomas (22.63) and Texas tech’s Rosemary Chukwuma (22.68). Jamaican Texas sophomore Kevona Davis was fourth in 22.76.
