Georgia: Health Minister attends 5th Global Ministry of Patient Safety in Switzerland

Tbilisi: Minister of IDPs, Labor, Health and Social Welfare of Georgia, Zurab Azarashvili is on an official visit to Switzerland. Within the framework of the visit, he participated in the 5th Global Ministry of Patient Safety.

The high-level event was opened by the President of the Swiss Confederation, Alan Berse. The ministry’s goal is to assess the current situation and discuss future prospects for patient safety around the world.

Zurab Azarashvili spoke at the event spoke about state policy, steps already taken and future visions for patient safety. It was noted that ensuring citizens maximum access to high quality health care services is a priority of the Government of Georgia.

“Our primary goal is to create a safe and effective healthcare environment with adequate infrastructure and human resources to prevent health risks and improve clinical outcomes,” Zurab Azarashvili said.

According to the Health Minister, Georgia has improved and implemented high-risk medical services standards, as well as a new model for monitoring and audit of nozocomic infections. 

Active work is underway to control the infection and 120 clinics have already been checked. At the same time, complaints related to patient safety and medical errors are actively considered by the Professional Development Board at the ministry.

Speaking at the Ministry, Zurab Azarashvili also talked about the international standards that will be mandatory for clinics included in the universal health care program from 2025 In addition, according to the Minister, Georgia has made important reforms on safe and high quality medicines to improve the accessibility of the country.

As Zurab Azarashvili noted, the well-being of medical staff is a guarantee of patient safety. With this in mind, the Ministry is working on strengthening professional platforms.

“We reaffirm our commitment and willingness to join the global movement for patient-oriented and safer healthcare systems,” Zurab Azarashvili said.

Ambassador Aleksandre Maisuradze attended the 5th Global Ministry of Patient Safety, with the Minister, the Permanent Representative of Georgia in UN Departments and other international organizations in Geneva.
