Lasha Khutsishvili, the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Georgia appreciated Sakstat’s activities. According to him Saxstat data plays a crucial role in developing better Georgian policies.
He gave his speech at the event dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the National Statistics Service. He also added that quality, reliable, and comprehensive information is crucial for planning the right fiscal policy. He emphasized the important role that an independent and highly qualified statistical service plays in the country’s development through the regular production of statistical data produced by implementing international best practices in the country.
Minister of Finance Lasha Khutsishvili also underlined that ” the Statistics Service is a truly outstanding institution that constantly improves the quality of its activities and supplies policymakers and other interested parties with high-quality information. It should be noted that in 2019 the transition to the SNA2008 methodology was successfully implemented and this year the data row of GDP and other indicators of national accounts was revised as per the Harmonized European Revision Policy.”
Notbly “In 2020 Saxstat was one of the first to implement the new methodology of the International Labor Organization (ILO). In terms of employment-unemployment statistics. it should be noted that according to the World Bank data, Georgia’s statistical system ranks 15th in the world and 14th among the best European countries.”
He discussed cooperation between the Ministry of Finance and the National Statistics Service. He said “Since one of the sources of initial statistics data is various sub-departmental institutions of the Ministry of Finance. Several interesting challenges lies ahead of our joint work. Along with receiving the status of a candidate for EU membership we are actively working toward further reforming of statistics.”
At the end of the speech Lasha Khutsishvili congratulated each employee of the Statistics Service on their anniversary and wished success in another important project implemented by the service this year namely the universal population census project.
