Georgia: The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is preparing for the presidential elections. According to official information, seven candidates will compete for the IOC’s presidency.

The candidates vying for the IOC presidency represent a rich tapestry of sports and nationalities. They include the World Endurance President, British two-time Olympic Champion Sebastian Koe, President of the International Gymnastics Federation, Japanese Marina Watanabe, Head of the International Cycling Federation, French David Lapartienti, President of the FF Skiing and Snowboarding Federation, Sweden Johann Eliasch, Vice President of the International Olympic Committee, Spanish X Van Antonio Samaranch Jr. and IOC Executive Board Members – Jordan Prince, Faisal Al-Hussein and Zimbabwean two-time Olympic champion Kirsty Coventry.

Shortly before, at the IOC session in Paris, IOC President Thomas Bach, whose presidential term is about to end, said that he would not run for a new term as head of the organization.

The presidential elections will take place at the IOC session, which the Greek city of Olympia will host from March 18 to 21, 2025. The new president will assume office in June 2025.

This timeline serves as a crucial roadmap for the impending changes in the IOC leadership, a transition that will undoubtedly shape the future of international sports governance.

Before the elections, the presidential candidates can present their program to the IOC members at a closed-door session scheduled for January 2025. This session will be a crucial step in the election process.
