The Georgian National Olympic Committee made an emergency announcement on its official Facebook page about the illegal use of Olympic props.
The Committee said, “As the public knows, the 2024 Summer Olympic Games will be held in Paris, the capital of France, from 26 July to 11 August. With the Olympics approaching, we’d like to issue a preliminary public call to curb the unauthorized use of Olympic props.”
The post also stated, “Olympic Games constitute the exclusive property of the International Olympic Committee (SOC), as the leading governing body of the Olympic movement, which without restriction owns all the rights associated with it, taking into account any existing or future form and through organizing, conducting, broadcasting, recording, representing, and reproducing them. ”
It mentioned, “The rights of action and dissemination. Therefore, all rights to any Olympic props (Olympic symbol, flag, slogan, anthem, and celebrations (including but not limited to the Olympic Games,” “Olympic Games,” etc. .. The signs, emblems, flags, and lanterns) and their use belong exclusively to Soc, which includes but is not limited to their use for any profit, commercial and advertising purposes.
AIP National Olympic Committee of Georgia (SEOK), which represents the SEOK on Georgia’s territory, actively monitors and controls Olympic events and participants in any way and form (whether verbal or written) dissemination of information and, without limitation, Olympic symbols, Olympic Games badges, pictographs, Graphic images, any emblem and Olympic kits Logo, words (“Olympic,” “Olympic Games,” etc.)
The names of host cities, Olympic events, and participants’ Logos, flags, images, names, sports titles, years, trademarks, and any other form of trademark, title, motto, and any form protected by law and any similar symbol, image, pattern, word, pronunciation, saying, etc. Use of, including, unrestricted, any direct and indirect advertising/marketing activity, any form of promotion, such as social media and social networks, billboards, television, radio, print or online spaces, messages/promotions (whether paid or free), traditional advertising/PR (including private appearances and press releases), including, on any product/shopping space, etc.
Therefore,it was advised to note that any of the above-mentioned activities by any person, including, but not least, the use of Olympic Props, will be allowed only in accordance with the SEOC principles/rules and, as mentioned beforehand, by obtaining permission and agreement with the SEOC.
Seok hopes that the information will be provided to the appropriate persons by releasing a preliminary statement. They will act upon Seok’s permission within the shortest time after the statement was made, ensuring that unlawful actions will be prevented.
In addition, SEOK continues to actively monitor and immediately address lawful measures in case of violations. Specifically, violators will be prohibited by the court from engaging in any unauthorized activity and will be required to return any income/profit earned from such activities. If the income/profit exceeds the amount stipulated by law, the issue of liability may arise.
