Georgia: The member of parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, delivered a televised speech to the nation on the eve of the New Year, celebrating the country’s historic achievement of gaining the EU candidate status and thanking the people for their support and trust.
The Politician said that Georgia had achieved one of the most significant victories in its modern history by becoming a candidate country for European Union membership, a result of the government’s action to accelerate the reform process and strengthen good governance, as well as the society’s rejection of radicalism and confidence in the domestic and foreign policies focused on the welfare of citizens and based on national interests.
Shalva Papuashvili expressed his gratitude to the defence forces, police officers, firefighters, medical personnel, public servants, and all those whose professionalism, dedication and love of country had kept Georgia solid and hopeful for a better future, even in the most challenging moments of 2023.
The minister also extended his New Year wishes to the population living in the occupied regions of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, the Georgian diaspora, and all the friends of the Georgian people. He said he believed that together, they would be able to build the unity of their homeland and European future successfully.
The minister also congratulated the Mother Church, who he said was the spiritual leader of the Georgian people and stood with dignity to defend their spirituality and values.
He paid a special tribute to the parents who shared the New Year’s traditions and to the future generations – the children with whom they shared these traditions today. He said that an unbroken chain of traditions between generations kept their millennial nation self-sufficient.
The minister concluded his speech by congratulating everyone on the New Year 2024 and wishing their homeland peace, prosperity, progress, and victory.
