Tbilisi: Shota Rekhviashvili, Deputy Minister of State held a meeting with family members of missing persons. On this occasion also placed floral wreaths on the memorials of missing persons and join the family members during church prayers.
Under the initiative for reconciliation and civil equality the apparatus of the State Minister continues to hold work-information meetings with the family members of those who were missing in the war of August 2008 in Georgia. Recently, Deputy Minister of State Shota Rekhviashvili was present in the Gori region and met with representatives of up to 50 families of missing people living in Shida Kartli and Samtskhe-Javakheti regions.
On this occasion the briefing with families was mainly focused on the special focus of ensuring the missing person search process its continuation and effectiveness. It was underlined that the responsibility, involvement and role of the Georgian government and relevant state agencies in the process of implementation of the program is gradually increasing with each passing day.
In addition the importance of further intensive cooperation and coordinated activities with ICRC was emphasized to search the missing persons.
Shota Rekhviashvili also attended the event to pay tribute to the missing person which was held in Gori and decorated the memorial of people missing with a wreath.
It is noteworthy that On Friday, December 8, 2023 the Georgian Orthodox Church celebrates the day of the icon under the theme of “Three Joys of the Virgin Mary” which was written in 2014 with the blessing of the Catholic Patriarch of Georgia on the name of the missing people.
For the first time this year with the organisation and support of the State Minister’s Office a dedicated paraklis for missing persons was held in five Georgian cities, including Gori, Kutaisi, Tskaltubo, Zugdidi and Batumi.
Meanwhile Shota Rekhviashvili, Deputy Minister of State also attended the Prayer at the local church for the peace of departed souls. Many family members of lost people were holding the candles in their hands at the time of prayer.
There was a beauty full memorial in the graveyard that was constructed in memories of missing people. Shota Rekhviashvili, Deputy Minister of State held a personal interaction session to address the problems of family members of a missing person. He also apprised them on the effort of the ministry to trace the missing person as soon as possible.
A large number of people attended this ceremony and paid tribute to the missing person as well.
