Tbilisi: The special investigation services of Georgia announced the development of cases of November and December 2024. The special investigation service also assure the fast completion of ongoing trials as well.
It is worth to note that as per the information shared by SIS, “The investigation is underway in active mode on the violation of official powers and interference of journalists in the professional activities of the protesters, under article 333 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, sub-paragraph “B” and Article 154, Part 2, Part 2.”
Moreover, in November and December of 2024 reports were received from various sources regarding violations of the rights of demonstrators and individual journalists by law enforcement agencies.
The special investigation service made a quick legal reaction to each message received. Since the investigation began, 291 people have been questioned, including 38 journalists.
In addition, at the National Bureau of Forensic Expert named after SP Levan Samkharauli, forensic medical expertise was assigned to 164 people injured at the rally. The service has obtained media and public Internet recordings, they are investigating surveillance video cameras mounted on the scene of a protest and nearby streets. The total length of records obtained for this stage exceeds 1100 hours.
On the other hand, in order to collect evidence, based on the court order medicals experts were appointed. From temporary detention isolators and Tbilisi City Court, the administrative legal materials of the persons detained at the demonstration are being requested and studied.
The Special Investigation Service is conducting surveys of law enforcers involved in the implementation of police measures and arresting injured citizens. The investigation, to determine the factual circumstances and identify individual law enforcers, carries out all necessary investigative actions.
Based on the relevant evidence, established by the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, the status of victim was given to all citizens who turned to the side of the accusation on the report of victim.
The special investigation service uses all the means provided by the law to protect the rights of citizens injured during the protest, each of them is given medical expertise, the clinics are requested to treat their injuries.
