Tbilisi: The Special Investigation Services of Georgia announced the creation of a digital registry. This registry will include names of the persons who have been convicted of serious offenses such as paedophilia, sexual extortion, etc.

The person whose name will be registered in this digital register will be under constant monitoring. Their rights will be restricted once names are entered into this digital registrar. As per SIS representatives  this move aims to create a safe environment for children and teenagers and to prevent cases of paedophilia, sexual extortion and blackmail.

As per previous data crime in various forms can affect any child or citizen who has access to the Internet. Many times cyber criminals use fake accounts to interact with children and win their trust through deception, after which by obtaining their intimate footage they invade the children’s private lives and subject them to sexual coercion, extortion and blackmailing with footage of their private lives.

Moreover entering names into the electronic register, monitoring  and confiscation of rights will cover all those whom the special investigation service identified as having committed sexual assault and sexual crimes against young children and minors. This provision will also cover those who obtain and distribute footage of their private lives for bribery.

The SIS also planned to impose various restrictive measures such as the ban on living with a minor, not approaching an educational institution within a radius of 30 meters, taking away the right to transport passengers, banning participation in medical and pedagogical activities  and banning working as a social worker.

The person will also be bound to report to the investigative body at certain intervals. The agency  will also have the right to check the person’s residence and work address, request information from him  and take other preventive measures.

Head of the Special Investigation Service Koka Katsitadze  recently met with the deputies Giorgi Kvaratskhelia and Natia. The meeting was attended by the heads of the investigation department  who talked about the cases of pedophilia, sexual extortion  and related challenges. At the meeting  the draft of the registry and monitoring mechanism prepared by the Analytical Department was also discussed.
