Special Investigation service’s officials attends int. conference in Frankfurt and Madrid

The representative of Georgia’s Special investigation service took part in meetings held in Frankfurt and Madrid. The meetings were organized by the EPAC (European Partners Against Corruption) and ICIN (International Criminal Investigation Network).

The meeting of the “European Partner against Corruption” (EPAC) was held in Frankfurt, whereas the meeting of the “International Criminal Investigation Network” (ICIN) was held in Madrid. The Frankfurt conference was also attended by the Northern Ireland police ombudsman, the federal police commissioner, representatives of the academic circles of German universities, and other security experts.

The participants of the conference on this occasion discussed police accountability, practices and challenges of independent police complaint review bodies using the example of five countries, Canada, France, Germany, Japan and Great Britain.  The conversation further touched on the results of the three-year international research project in which experts and practitioners of the field took part.

At the same time the employees of the Special Investigation Service took part in the working meeting of the International Criminal Investigations Network in the city of Madrid. Notably  along with Georgia  25 countries are united in the International Criminal Investigation Network (ICIN). The purpose of the network (ICIN) network is to share international best practices related to the investigative process and to strengthen cooperation between countries.

In addition to the Georgian investigation services officials  the Swedish Special Investigation Service, the Independent Investigation Authority of the Netherlands, the Metropolitan Police of Great Britain, the General Inspectorate of the French National Gendarmerie, the National Police of Spain, the Bureau of Internal Affairs of Estonia, the National Security Service of Hungary, as well as the law enforcement officers of Malta, Germany, Slovenia and Denmark attended the meeting.

At the working meeting, the representatives of the participating countries shared their experience in planning and conducting investigative activities, investigative strategy,   information sharing  and effective functioning of the Whistleblower Institute with their colleagues.

It is also worth noting that the Special Investigation Service became a member of “The European Partners against Corruption/EPAC” and “International Criminal Investigation Network” (ICIN) in 2023.  The Special Investigation Service investigators said that they will continue to participate in similar events in the future to gain the best international experience.
