As of August 1, Tbilisi City Hall is suspending the program of housing Ukrainian refugees. The City Hall announced that the agency launched a special program in the first days of the Russia-Ukraine war – the City Hall accommodates Ukrainian citizens arriving in Georgia, who apply for housing, in different hotels, with three meals a day.
From August 1, the City Hall program will be suspended – Ukrainian refugees will have to leave the hotels, and instead, the Ministry of Health will give 300 GEL per family per month, additionally – 45 GEL per person.Â
The announcement of the City Hall states that within the framework of the program, Tbilisi has already hosted more than 5,100 people, of which more than 2,300 people are staying in 40 hotels in the capital.
“For this purpose, a total of 11 million GEL was spent from the budget, and at the end of the month, the amount will reach approximately 14 million GEL.
In accordance with the decree of the Government of Georgia #1254 of July 13, 2022, citizens of Ukraine who entered Georgia due to the ongoing hostilities in Ukraine will receive monetary assistance from July 15 of this year – 300 GEL per family and 45 GEL per person. In addition, international organizations (World Vision and UNHCR) are considering an aid package of 235 GEL per person.
Based on the above, on July 31, 2022, the Tbilisi City Hall will terminate the current program,” Tbilisi City Hall announced.Â
One of the Ukrainian refugee women, who has been homeless since August 1, is asking for help.Â
“I want to thank the Georgian people. We just got rid of the occupation. We went through real hell before arriving here. We are glad that we got here; we don’t want to go anywhere else. Everyone told us that if we reached Georgia, the Georgian people would help us here. People are coming from Ukraine; they are coming. Only women and children. The men stay to fight. I want to ask you to help us in such a difficult time.” – says one of the Ukrainian refugees.
