Tbilisi: 10 more arrested for disobeying police at protest against Foreign Agents Law

Tbilisi: The Ministry of Internal Affairs detained 10 more persons during the protest against Foreign Agents Law, under Article 173 of the Administrative Offenses Code for disobeying the lawful request of the police, for the purpose of conducting a protest rally against safely and protecting the order of order.

Tbilisi: The Ministry of Internal Affairs detained 10 more persons during the protest against Foreign Agents Law, under Article 173 of the Administrative Offenses Code for disobeying the lawful request of the police, for the purpose of conducting a protest rally against safely and protecting the order of order.

The persons were stopped by law enforcement because, as police noticed, they were in possession of some illegal items and gloves. Within the framework of the jurisdiction defined by the law of Georgia, “About the Police”, according to which the law enforcer has the right to carry out a superficial inspection of a person’s clothes only on the outer surface of his clothes, police officers have carried out their superficial inspection. 

It was found that they were going to protest against the Foreign Agents Law, near the Parliament building and were carrying items of violence, including electric shock, gloves, stones, various types of pyrotechnics, paints and various prohibited items, which the police seized as evidence.

Employees of relevant divisions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are mobilized in the vicinity of the Parliament building to protect public order, and within the framework of the powers defined by Article 22 of the Law “About the Police” of Georgia, they are checking and observing the participants of the demonstration.

In addition, as a result of operational measures and investigations carried out by the employees of the Tbilisi Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, on March 7, this year, on the fact of the attack on policemen during a protest held near the Parliament, according to Article 353 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, one person was arrested.

Several more persons have been identified for whom appropriate measures are being taken.According to articles 166 and 173 of the Code of Administrative Offenses by law enforcement officers, 76 people were arrested.

The Interior Ministry is continuing operational measures and investigations to identify and arrest people who attacked police officers and other acts of violence during the ongoing protests near the Parliament Building.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs again urges all participants of the demonstration not to exceed the limits allowed by the law of freedom of assembly and expression, to obey the lawful demands of police officers. Any act of violation of law by police will be immediately investigated within the framework of law.
