The Environmental Service of Tbilisi City Hall has completed the arrangement of a park on 16 hectares in Samgori district, Abashvili Street N3, a so-called military settlement. The recreational space in the capital is the second largest, after Sea District Park.
The newly renovated park was opened with a ceremonial event, which was attended by the Mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, who addressed the gathered community.
“Another very important project was implemented in the form of a new park. Our capital has gained a well-organized recreational space. Several years ago, there were no roads or other infrastructure in this area, and today everything is in order. Within the project, trees and plants were planted, and attractions were installed. A suitable space has been created for people of all generations where they can have fun, relax, exercise, etc. Of course, implementing these types of projects is very important for our city. That’s why we won’t stop and will continue working. There are no central and secondary districts for us. It is important for us that all districts are equally developed. Therefore, it is praiseworthy that the second largest park in the capital was opened in Samgori district. I am happy with you too, and I want to ask you one thing: to take care of this space. This is your space that your children and grandchildren will use daily. So, let’s take care of it together and preserve it,” said Kakha Kaladze.
Within the scope of the project, the area was completely organized, greened, and various-purpose spaces were arranged for citizens. In particular, it features pedestrian and bicycle paths, exercise areas, basketball and football courts, children’s area, recreation pavilions, skatepark, parkour and chess areas. There was also a dry fountain, an amphitheater, a small bike track and a cinema space.
The project included outdoor lighting, irrigation, and video surveillance systems. 13 873 seedlings were planted, and grass was laid. The cost of the works was 21 756 964 GEL.
The newly opened park was visited by the mayor of the capital and his deputies, Andria Basilaya and Irakli Bendeliani, the head of the city environmental service, Paata Togonidze, as well as the members of the capital’s government and Tbilisi City Council.
