Tbilisi: The Georgian Parliamentary Speaker, Shalva Papuashvili, along with the ambassador of the European Union to Georgia, Pawel Herczynski, evaluated the implementation of the 12-point conditions put up by the European Union to grant membership candidate status to Georgia. The meeting was held between the officials on Friday.
Along with this, the officials reviewed the opinions and expectations of the European Union regarding Georgia’s underway progress, stated the Parliament press office. The parliament speaker noted that parliament was expected to finish off their tasks as recommended according to the plan.
The officials discussed the other issues on the agenda of bilateral relations while stressing the significance of a high-level visit of the European Commission to Georgia in the near future. The EU ambassador to Georgia, Herczynski, stated that the EU delegations would keep on supporting the country in the process of implementation of the 12-point conditions put up by the bloc.
Recently, the European Council provided membership candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova on June 24. The Council further stated that it is ready to grant similar status to Georgia if the Georgian government fulfils the outstanding priorities that the European Commission has outlined.
Meanwhile, the Georgian government has been moving ahead in this direction. Anri Okhanashvili, the ruling party MP and the chair of the parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee, presented the initiation of the bill on Wednesday, quoting it to be one of the European Union’s 12-point conditions for providing the membership candidate status to Georgia.
Although criticism was made against the clause of the bill, stating the head of the agency to be elected by the Prime Minister, the Georgian Dream Party is clear to be making its moves to acquire the European Union’s membership candidate status.
