Tbilisi: Speaker addresses International Kartvelology Conference

Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of Georgia’s Parliament attended the International Kartvelology Conference and urged citizens to preserve the country's rich heritage.

Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of Georgia’s Parliament attended the International Kartvelology Conference in Tbilisi. In his address speaker called upon citizens to preserve the country’s rich heritage, language and culture for future generations.

The conference attracted people from across the world who are associated with Georgian culture, history, heritage, etc. It was addressed by many key speakers including Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.

In his address at the International Kartvelology Conference the speaker urged participants to make every effort to protect Georgian culture for future generations. Speaker said it is the collective responsibility of all of us to take the initiative in this direction as well.

He added, “I am very happy to see this important conference being held in Tbilisi. The conference reflects our commitment to preserving our language, literature, history and culture.”

At the same time the speaker  while acknowledging the achievements of ancestors stated “We must always remember the contribution of our ancestors towards the enrichment of our culture. The names of key personalities such as Ivane Javakhishvili, Korneli Kekelidze, Akaki Shanidze, Shalva Mirianashvili, and Giorgi Chitaia can not be ignored as they have done wonderful work for the upliftment of Georgian heritage across the borders.”

The speaker expressed happiness that many European Georgian scholars have done research on Georgian heritage. Some renowned names are Marie Brose, David Lange, Julius Asfalg, and Hugo Schuchardt.

According to him the Georgian language, history, and culture keep us united. Our unique identity will ensure Georgia’s smoother European integration. It is worth noting that Georgian is recorded as the unique 24th official language of the EU and its script as the EU’s fourth script.

At the end of his speech Shalva Papuashvili expressed his gratitude to all researchers and scholars who have contributed to the study of Kartvelology. He also thanked the National Academy of Sciences for organizing this event for the fourth consecutive year in Tbilisi. Other speakers at the event also underlined the greatness of Georgian culture, which will inspire future generations.
