To raise awareness about Breast Cancer the Tbilisi TV tower was decorated with pink lights. Every year, the month of October is observed as World Cancer Awareness Month (WCAM).
Tbilisi City Hall posted a picture of a pink light-reflecting tower on its official Facebook page. The page also posted a message to people about the need to raise awareness and fight breast cancer, which takes many precious lives every year across the globe. As women are most vulnerable to breast cancer problems, so special efforts are required to make women aware of the issue.
Georgia has also established the national screening centre to spearhead its campaign against the disease. Eter Kiguradze, the director of the national screening centre underlined the importance of awareness on this front.
He states “It is important that for the last few years, our capital has also joined the worldwide effort against this disease. As a sign of cancer prevention and solidarity with this problem, the most of Tbilisi buildigs lights up in the pink colour. Various events are also held to raise awareness about cancer screening. This is another way to remind citizens how important timely treatment is to prevent advanced forms of the disease and fatal cases.”
He further added that, Our information campaign “Your life is in your hands” is also being carried out with the involvement of the National Screening Centre along with Tbilisi Municipality Gender Equality Council and NGO namely “Europa Dona Georgia”.
The campaign aims to promote early cancer diagnosis, prevention and screening programs. This is an effective way to reduce the number of cases, added Eter Kiguradze.
It is also to be added that “the TV tower was lit up in pink to raise awareness about breast cancer at the initiative of the National Screening Center and with the support of Tbilservi Group. Women between the ages of 40 and 70 can have a free breast cancer screening.
Any interesting woman can regather herself for screening. They can register by contacting the National Screening Centre branches located at different cities.
