Tbilisi: The Georgian Agency of Protected Territories announced a change in the rate of entry fees for protected territories. This decision has been taken to enhance the revenue of the agency .As per the information, these new changes will be implemented from March 1, 2024.

The main task of the Agency of Protected Areas of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia is to protect and develop Georgia’s unique natural heritage. The natural heritage of the country consisting of forest areas constitutes about 13% of the country’s territory.

The agency’s revenue is directed on the one hand to protecting nature and on the other hand active work is carried out towards the development of ecotourism, rehabilitation of existing facilities, and setting up new facilities in these areas.

The new decision will also promote job creation in regions, economic impact growth and sustainable management of nature.

In the previous year, 2023 large-scale works were carried out in various protected areas with the active financial support of the state. Notably the total value of those works was almost 22.5 million GEL.

This project includes completing 1200 km of trails and accompanying tourist infrastructure, 3D lighting in the areas of Martvili Canyon and Okatse (Kinchkha) waterfall, and others.

It is to be specifically mentioned that the development of ecotourism and the implementation of innovations according to the best international experience is associated with the increase in exploitation costs.

In order to make the activities of the Agency of Protected Areas in Georgia more effective both in the field of environmental protection and in the development of ecotourism it is necessary to change ticket prices as per the official of the agency and new rate will be as follows:
