Georgia: Georgian Interior Ministry has revealed that vehicle traffic in the capital, Tbilisi, will be restricted due to preparations being made for celebrating Georgian Independence Day next week.
Traffic access to Freedom Square and the adjacent Rustaveli Avenue will be restricted beginning at midnight on Monday, with the First Republic Square, located at the opposite end of the Avenue, closing on Wednesday, a day before the Independence Day celebrations on May 26.
Drivers travelling to Merab Kostava and Sanapiro streets will be detoured to Baratashvili and Tabukashvili streets, while those heading to Gorgasali Street from Mtatsminda will be detoured to Asatiani Street. Vertskhli Street will be used to reroute traffic from Kote Apkhazi Street to Baratashvili Street.
On the right bank of the Mtkvari River, traffic will be prohibited on the ramp leading to Baratashvili Street. Instead, vehicles will be directed to Gorgasali Street.
Only the ramp section leading to the House of Justice will be accessible from the Baratashvili descent.
Drivers travelling to Mtatsminda will be diverted to Melikishvili Street via Simon Janashia, Ivane Tarkhnishvili, and Tamar Chovelidze streets and then onto Chonkadze Street.
Traffic will flow from Chavchavadze Avenue down Melikishvili and Kostava streets and along the riverbank.
According to the Ministry, patrol police officers will monitor traffic flow and issue directions on other routes, with regular traffic access expected to resume on Friday.
