A dedicated training session was recently held on July 12, 2024, on the topic of sustainable development goals and climate change.
The meeting was attended by young people participating in the Union of Young Teachers’ youth programs. The training session was facilitated by the invited expert  Giorgi Mukhigulishvili  a researcher of energy and sustainable development issues in Georgia.
On this occasion  the experts and other participants discussed many issues. The main issues discussed by experts on the occasion were Progress in implementing the SDGs (Susutainable Development Goals) and achieved results in Climate change mitigation and adaptation policies.
The other topics of discussion that were highlighted during the event include what elements underpin the Sustainable Development Goals, how are the Sustainable Development Goals different from the Millennium Development Goals, how climate change related to sustainable development, and what is the role of citizen engagement in this process.
Two projects jointly planned the event: the Georgian Climate Program (GEO CAP), implemented by CENN with the financial support of the European Union, and “Unity in Diversity,” implemented by the United Nations Association of Georgia with the financial support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
“Young Teachers’ Union” is the partner organization of the programs in the Guria region. They are implementing the many social issues in the country with the involvement of different partners as well. The key speakers of the occasion expressed their concern about the earth’s rising temperature. They encouraged the participants to play an active role in implementing policies to protect the environment and promote sustainable development.
The participants also said that more initiatives are needed to have a positive impact on the global environment. They were also taught how an individual can play an active role by raising awareness of environmental issues. He also added that these individual efforts can also bring about dramatic change.
