The ongoing legal case which involves the Giorgi Chikvaidze and Irakli Papiashvili has taken a new turn with their appeal to the Tbilisi City Court. The appeal matter from trial to appellant court follows a series of developments in their trial.
Some of those development also includes defendants’ repeated failure to comply with the conditions of their bail. As per source at hearings, both Chikvaidze and Papiashvili were warned for not attending multiple scheduled hearings.
Moreover, as per court despite the ongoing legal proceedings, both defendants have not submitted any documents to explain their absences or provide a valid reason for their failure to appear in court so far.
The legal experts opined that the breach of the bail conditions led to concerns regarding the defendants’ compliance with legal obligations. It is also to be noted that new evidence has surfaced from the investigation service of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia.
The investigation completed so far by law enforcers revealed that both Chikvaidze and Papiashvili were involved in the illegal crossing of the Georgian state border.
In particularly Chikvaidze was reported to be close to a key location near the border entry point. After receiving the information, the ministry of Finance initiated a new investigation on March 7, 2025, under Article 19,344 of the Criminal Code. This investigation was launched to addresses illegal border crossing activities.
On the other hand due to violations and the ongoing investigation, the Tbilisi City Court took action on the mediation of the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia  The court ruled to replace Chikvaidze’s previous conditions and set a new bail condition worth  50,000 GEL.
Notably so far information in this regard revoked disclosed that the criminal charges against both defendants are serious. They are accused of pre planning of crime to embezzle a significant sum of money. The office has initiated a fierce fight against the economic offenders.
