Trinidad and Tobago: Former PNM Attorney General John Jeremie shocked many by showing up on a United National Congress (UNC) campaign in Penal, revealing that he will vote for UNC in the upcoming elections on April 28, 2025 and also urged the citizens to choose their leader wisely this time.
Supporters of the party were pleased to hear Jeremie speech, in which he publicly declared that he will vote UNC stating he is for national integration and requests for the country to stop using race as a determinant for politics.
Looking at Jeremie’s history with the PNM it came as a surprise, but he did say that the situation is far worse today than it was a decade ago citing crime and the economy getting worse as his reasons.
He believes the country is in crisis and there is an urgent need for someone else at the helm. Calling on citizens to fundamentally ask themselves if they are in fact living a life better than they were 10 years back.
It is to be noted that Jeremie was Attorney General for PNM from 2003 to 2007 and again from 2009 to 2010 during the Patrick Manning administration. He noted that, regardless of political differences, he has always tried to do what is best for the country.
He remarked on his enduring relationship with the PNM and reminisced about how he first got involved with the party as a result of his late mother’s activities with former Prime Minister Dr. Eric Williams.
Shared Past with Kamla Persad-Bissessar
Jeremie shared that he was once a student of Kamla Persad at ‘The University of the West Indies’. He later reflected on how they ended up in different political camps but pointed to the respect he has for her and her commitment to serving the country.

Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar had teary eyes during the public meeting in which she received support from Jeremie, stating how enthralled she was by his endorsement. “You would not know how much they mean to me and I know that my UNC family will welcome you with open arms,” she noted.
Jeremie’s appeal to the voters
He encouraged voters to put aside everything related to race and femininity to focus on building a better nation. Jeremie together with his supporters went on to call the public to action telling them that voting for the UNC is what the country needs. According to him April 28 is a decisive day for Trinidad and Tobago.
