UK: The tragic demise of 12-year-old Archie Battersbee has stirred a lot of debate in the country. Archie’s mother, Holly Dance, 46 has now blamed a fatal online challenge, namely, ’BlackOut Challenge’ to be the reason behind the untimely death of her child.

The Blackout challenge consists of an act in which an individual chokes himself until he passes out. The deadly challenge has left many with damaged brains from the last 14 years when it began.

Archie Battersbee was found in comatose condition at his house in Essex, with a ligature around his neck. He breathed his last on August 6 after the life support he was given; had been ordered to be withdrawn after four months. Moreover, the appeal to shift their child to a hospice was also denied.

She believes that her child had succumbed to an undignified death after suffering for four months.

His parents had appealed for his life support to be continued. However, on losing the bid, the child had to be taken off support, thus losing the battle of life.

Hollie has lashed out at giant social media platforms that hardly care for the content available on the platform. Such challenges that circulate online can prove deadly for many more children.

“It’s out there, and people are grooming our children to do these challenges, it’s disgusting. The people – they’re often adults, not children – who are demonstrating these challenges are sick, said Archie’s mother, Hollie. She had found online footage of a 30-year-old man demonstrating to children about this game.
