Tbilisi: The newly appointed Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Georgia Garet Ward met Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili. During his meeting the new UK ambassador to Georgia presented his credentials to foreign minister as well.
The meeting between the foreign minister and ambassador took place today during which the ambassador handed over copies of his credentials. The Foreign Minister of Georgia extended his congratulations to the new Ambassador and expressed hopes that the new appointment would promote the relations between both countries to new heights.
Ilia Darchiashvili congratulated and also extended his best wishes for a successful tenure as the Ambassador in Georgia. He said that he is very hopeful that the new ambassador will do his best to strengthen the relations.
It is to be mentioned explicitly that at the meeting both sides reiterated their commitment for better bilateral relations in the future as well. Moreover they discussed the existing relations between both countries with a special focus on the “Wardrop Strategic Dialogue.”
The relations between both countries are very cordial and they also include cooperation in fields such as political, defense and security, trade-economic, and people-to-people relations. On the other hand the Georgian Minister also thanked the Government of United Kingdom for its unwavering support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity even in the most difficult times.
Meanwhilev the UK also thanked the Minister for the warm welcome. He further said that the United Kingdom is always ready to cooperate with the Georgian government in all fields.
According to the UK’s Ambassador his country has always respected Georgia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and Euro-Atlantic integration and will continue to support it in the future. He said that the existing relationship between the two countries will achieve new heights in the future.
The relations between the United Kingdom of Great Britain and the United States are very cordial, similar to UK—USA relations. The United Kingdom is a big supporter of Georgia’s integration into the European Union.
Georgia received the status of candidate country of the European Union last year. The country is striving to become a full-fledged member of the European Union.
