“Participation in the new generation agro-Olympics is especially important for us. Winning the Olympics will be the best incentive for them to do even more for the field, for their own development and advancement. The winners of the Olympiad will undergo an internship at the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture and will be given the opportunity to be employed in the Ministry system,” said Otar Shamugia.

The National Agrarian Olympiad will be held under the auspices of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia. The Olympics are organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Austrian Development Cooperation, the Agricultural Development Association (ADA), the USAID Agriculture Program, and the Network of Caucasus Environmental Non-Governmental Organizations (CENN).

The target audience of the Olympics is:

  • Specialists with higher or professional education in the field of agriculture
  • Students of agrarian profile universities and vocational schools
  • Farmers who are involved in agricultural activities and, as a result of long practice, have the necessary knowledge and experience.
  • Students from 14 to 18 years old, both in specialized colleges and in public and private schools

“First of all, the Olympics will allow us to present and encourage people with in-depth knowledge and qualifications in the field of agriculture, and on the other hand, to maximize the promotion of agricultural education among young people,” said the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Representative in Georgia. Mamuka Meskhi.

The Olympics will be held in three stages. In the first stage, the candidates will be registered; In the second stage, registered participants will be tested (remotely, via an online platform) in their pre-selected agricultural fields; In the third stage, the winners will be revealed through testing.

This year, several major changes have been made to the rules of the Olympics:

  • The contestant will be able to participate in only one field. Consequently, the chances of one person winning two different nominations are ruled out.
  • If the contestants accumulate an equal number of points in the same field, the prize will be awarded to the participant who has the correct answer to more questions in the “difficult” category. If the participants in the tenth and eleventh places in the first round accumulate an equal number of points, both of them will be admitted in the second round.
  • The number of test questions has been reduced, and instead of 90, 60 questions will be used in each direction.

Within the framework of Agro-Olympics 2022, from each category (farmer, student, specialist and pupil), according to the fields, three winners (I place, II place, III place) will be revealed, who will be awarded certificates and prizes.
