A memorandum of cooperation was signed between the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia.
It was signed by the Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili and the Deputy Minister of Education and Science Nunu Mickevich.
“A memorandum was signed between the ministries, as well as between eight universities and the Center for Environmental Information and Education, which is a new platform. We will jointly promote the development of environmental education, both in the bachelor’s and master’s programs. Also, we are adding a new component of “green scholarships” that will encourage students of master’s programs,” said Solomon Pavliashvili.
The purpose of the memorandum is to strengthen cooperation between the parties in the field of higher education and science in the areas of environmental science, ecology, natural environment and wildlife, nature use, geology, hydrology, environmental protection technology, agronomy, horticulture, forestry, veterinary medicine, viticulture and winemaking. The memorandum will help to encourage students who excel in the mentioned programs in the form of “green scholarships” and to undergo internships in relevant agencies.
The parties will work together to encourage the involvement of specialists as much as possible in the direction of the implementation of the research component of the masters and doctoral programs of the universities.
At the meeting, the director of the Environmental Information and Education Center, Tamar Aladashvili, presented the “Green Scholarships” program, which aims to popularize the deficient environmental professions and encourage graduate students in this direction.
For the successful implementation of the “Green Scholarships” program, Tamar Aladashvili, director of the Environmental Information and Education Center, and representatives of the universities signed a memorandum of cooperation.
The Environmental Information and Education Center signed memorandums between Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, Ilia State University, Georgia Technical University, Georgian Institute of Public Affairs, Akaki Tsereteli State University, Yakob Gogebashvili Telavi State University, Batumi Shota Rustaveli State University and Sukhumi State University.Â
The Green Scholarship Program will be implemented by the Center for Environmental Information and Education of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture within the framework of the large-scale initiative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) “Reducing the risk of disasters caused by climate change in Georgia”, which is supported by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the governments of Georgia, Sweden and Switzerland.
