Georgia: PM advisor presents draft National Human Rights Strategy to members of parliament

Tbilisi: Niko Tatulashvili, the advisor to the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, on human rights protection issues, presented a draft document of the National Human Rights to the parliamentary members at the Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee.

Tbilisi: Niko Tatulashvili, the advisor to the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, on human rights protection issues, presented a draft document of the National Human Rights to the parliamentary members at the Human Rights and Civil Integration Committee.

The second document of the national strategy for 2022-2030 years developed by the Georgian Governmentwith multi-sectoral cooperation aims to strengthen systematic guarantees of human rights protection in the country. It also looks forward to resolving the existing challenges as the press office of the Parliament reports.

The strategy brings together human rights and freedoms under four main priorities enlisted as strengthening justice, the rule of law principles, institutional democracy and effective use of civil and political rights. The strategy would also work on protecting economic and social rights as well as reflecting the constitutional guarantees of providing equality in state policy and their execution on the ground level.

Along with this, the strategy eyes upon protecting the rights and freedom of the citizens that have been affected by the Russian occupation of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali( South Ossetia) of Georgia’s regions. Also, the internally displaced citizens and refugees from the occupied territories , and the population of villages near the line of occupation would be looked after in this strategy.

The Chairman of the Human Rights Committee, Mikheil Sarjveladze stated that the document responded to the number of tasks of the implementation of 12-point conditions, the European Union stated for granting the membership candidate status to Georgia.

PM Irakli’s advisor stated that the document has been shared with ‘all interested parties’ and the final draft shall be made after the members of parliament provide their feedbacks.
