Tbilisi: Recently, a Summary public consultation on the “White Paper” of the climate change law was held in the Republic of Georgia. It was held in Batumi city of the of Georgia.
It is to be specifically mentioned that the White Paper of the Law on Climate Change includes the basic principles and international obligations that Georgia should have in the law of climate change to make the country environment-friendly.
It is to be noted that the Georgian Climate Change Law “White Paper” was well developed by the Committee for Environment and Natural Resources of the Parliament of Georgia in cooperation with the Center for Environmental Information and Education, with the support of the Westminster Fund for Democracy (WFD) and the United Kingdom of England.
This very significant and vital meeting was attended by the First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture, Nino Tandilashvili, Chairman of the Committee of Environment Protection and Natural Resources, Maia Bitadze, Minister of Agriculture of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara Zaza Shavadze, Deputy Director of the Center for Environmental Information and Education Ekaterine Bendeliani, Head of Representation of Westminster Foundation for Democracy Lasha Nakashidze and Batumi Shota Rustaveli in Artvelo Deputy Rector of the State University Anzor Beridze was present.
As per the information made public by the officials the Representatives of non-governmental and community organisations, representatives of municipalities, students, and interested societies participated in the consultation. In order to promote maximum involvement of the population in public consultation, the meeting was held in a hybrid format to take the views of people.
Public consultations have already been held in other cities like Gorsa and the city In Tbilisi. Georgian law on climate change will be developed based on opinions received during consultations.
Nino Tandilashvili said that the Government of Georgia has been implementing many legal provisions to initiate the measures against global warming and climate change.
During the public meeting a presentation was also held. The presentation threw light on the various aspects of climate change. it is noteworthy that Many organisations, non-governmental organisations, and social welfare groups in the country are actively involved in the process of creating awareness of climate change in country.
As per the minister, Nino Tandilashvi the Georgian government and its various agencies and departments are committed to considering the public suggestion. The minister soeaking further on the occassion also assured that recommendation of the people, as well as of the representatives of various organisations will be very useful for policy formation by the government.
The issue of climate change has become a serious global issue in the last two decades and all countries all making serious effort ot tackle the issue. Every year the rising temperature of the earth has been creating many problems for daily living, and these are also creating problems for human existence as well.
The hall was full of attendees who gave their valuable suggestions on this occasion. They also expressed their gratitude to the organisers of the meeting for inviting them to this important meeting. They also said that Public participation is very important for any successful implementation of laws relating to climate change and government is going in right direction.
