Mayor of Tbilisi highlights achievements and challenges of 2023

In a meeting of the Tbilisi Municipality Government, the mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, briefly summarised the projects and initiatives his administration implemented in 2023.

Tbilisi, December 27, 202: In a meeting of the Tbilisi Municipality Government, the mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, briefly summarised the projects and initiatives his administration implemented in 2023. 

He also acknowledged the challenges and problems that the city faces and expressed his determination to overcome them with more passion and dedication.

Kaladze listed some of the key achievements of 2023, such as:

  • The area of roads in the capital increased to 825,000 square meters.
  • Greening works were carried out on up to 40 hectares.
  • 1,750 applications were financed in the projects “promoting the development of housing communities”, with 45 million GEL spent
  • More than 81 million GEL was spent in healthcare programs, benefiting up to 30,000 applicants for one-time financial aid and 33,000 recipients of medical funding.
  • Under the Student Financing Program, more than 4,000 students from socially vulnerable, disabled, and large families were funded, and 617 successful master’s students were given money for financial incentives.
  • Tbilisi Transport Plan was created, and 18-meter buses were bought, which will be fully operational by the end of next year.
  • Approximately 620 people affected by cooperative housing were provided with spaces.
  • Rehabilitation of various cultural heritage monuments, such as Pupil-Youth Palace, Silk Museum, Cadet Corps, and others, was underway.

Within the framework of the program of replacement of multi-storey houses, construction was already underway at two addresses. Kakha Kaladze also mentioned that there are many more important projects going on that will be implemented next year. 

He admitted that more than the current achievements are needed and that the city needs more projects to make it cleaner, better infrastructure and public transport, and more green space.

He thanked his colleagues, the city council, the parliament, the media, and the citizens for their support and trust. He said that the government of Tbilisi stands on the shoulders of the people who work tirelessly for the city’s betterment. He said that he believes in the idea of a better Tbilisi and that taking care of the town is each of their duties.

He concluded his speech by wishing everyone a happy new year and expressing optimism for the city’s future.
