The State Security Service Agency of Georgia and the European Union law enforcement agency have signed a historic and significant agreement. This has been signed to exchange as well as protect of confidential information between both countries.
This was signed by Grigol Liluashvili, the head of the State Security Service of Georgia on behalf of the Republic of Georgia and the European Executive Director Catherine de Bol on behalf of the European Union.
This was signed under the head “ exchange and protection of confidential information between State Security Service of Georgia and the European Union Law Enforcement Agency”.
It is to be specifically mentioned that the signed agreement is based on the Framework Agreement on Operational and Strategic Cooperation which was signed between Georgia and Europe in 2017 and aims to create a legal basis for the exchange of confidential information between the parties and the establishment of a legal basis for bilateral protection. The agreement will provide the parties an opportunity to further strengthen cooperation in the fight against crime.
It is to be added further that the Georgian State Security Service has carried out several significant activities to deepen cooperation with Europe and at the initiative of the state security service Georgia became a member of four of Europe’s counterterrorist analysis projects and counterterrorist allies groups. With the signed agreement the cooperation between the Georgian State Security Service and Europe will be significantly expanded.
According to Georgian legislation’s demand the signed agreement will come into force after ratification by the Parliament of Georgia. Both sides after the signing ceremony expressed hopes that this would make the process of information sharing more smooth and easy. It was also accepted that this was the need of the hour to take strict action against the anti-social and criminal elements.
The information sharing will also help to reduce the rate of trans-country criminal activities.
