Georgia: Thea Akhvlediani inaugurate campaign “Young European Ambassador”

Thea Akhvlediani, the Georgian minister of State for Reconciliation and civil equality, opened an information campaign. The campaign’s name is “Young European Ambassadors.” This has been initiated to share information about Georgia’s European integration among the people from regions densely populated by ethnic minorities.

Minister Thea Akhvlediani focused on the role of bilingual youth in achieving the goals of the information campaign. According to her knowledge of the state language remains a challenge in many areas with densely populated ethnic minorities.

At the same time the Minister of State addressed the youth participants and discussed the main priorities of the state policy of civil equality and integration. Moreover while emphasizing the need to raise the knowledge of the state language, she underlined the importance of informing and raising the awareness of the population of the regions densely populated by ethnic minorities.

According to the minister the project’s main purpose is to inform the non-Georgian-speaking population about the issues of Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration.

Thea Akhvlediani also added that The program “Young European Ambassadors “As established by the initiative of the State Minister’s office. Raising the level of knowledge of the state language among the multi-ethnic population of Georgia is one of the main priorities of our efforts. The goal of the project will be achieved soon with overall efforts in this direction”.

According to the project officials bilingual young people who speak Georgian-Armenian and Georgian-Azerbaijani will share knowledge and information with the local population and ethnic minorities about the importance of European integration and the efforts being taken in this direction as well.

 

Tamara Tsuleiskiri, director of the Information Center on NATO and the European Union, and Tamara Sirbiladze, representative of the US International Development Agency also addressed the project participants.

The three-day seminar includes meetings with representatives of various state agencies and community experts to spread the information to a maximum number of people. Similarly, the young people from Samtskhe-Javakheti, Kvemo Kartli, and Kakheti municipalities will participate in the seminar.

The project “Young European Ambassadors” is being implemented by the Office of the State Minister of Georgia for Reconciliation and Civil Equality initiative, with the co-organization of the Information Center on NATO and the European Union and the United Nations Association of Georgia.
