Georgia: Informational meetings were held in Georgian municipalities to get acquainted with the principles of forest sector management.
Informational meetings about sustainable forest management and energy-efficient furnaces were held in the municipalities of Akhmeti, Telavi, Kvarli and Dedoplistskaro. Participants of the meetings discussed the changes provided for by the Forest Code of Georgia, sustainable forest management, improvement of state control over the forest, as well as the advantage of energy efficient furnaces and alternative fuel use.
These discussions led to a better understanding of the Forest Code, increased awareness about sustainable forest management practices, and a commitment to explore the use of energy-efficient furnaces and alternative fuels.
Meeting on the project ‘ECO’ of forest sector reform support in Georgia. It was held within Georgia. The goal of this project is not just to reduce pressure on forest and deforestation in Georgia through sustainable forest management and conservation, but also to bring about positive change in the lives of local communities.
The project aims to promote the development of an energy-efficient and alternative fuel market, strengthen the capabilities of communities and local governments near the forest, and increase their involvement in ongoing processes in the sector.
The project includes 8 municipalities of three regions of Georgia – Guria, Mtskheta-Mtianeti and Kakheti (Lanchkhuti, Ozurgeti, Chokhatauri, Akhmeta, Telavi, Dedoplistskaro, Kvareli, Tianeti).
The ‘ECO’ project in Georgia is a testament to the collaborative efforts of multiple entities. It is co-financed by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), the Government of Georgia, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
The project is being implemented by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, with the involvement of the authorities under the ministry. We deeply appreciate the financial support and trust placed in us by these entities.
