Georgia: The Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia, Thea Tsulukiani, expressed its grief over the death of Anzor Matsharashvili.

88 years old Anzor Makharashvili died as a result of a severe illness. The Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia expressed its grief over the death of Anzor Makharashvili and expressed condolences to his family and relatives.

Anzor Makharashvili, former director of Mirzaani’s Niko Pirosmanashvili House Museum and researcher of Pirosmani’s works, died.

Anzor Machsharashvili was born in 1936 in the village of Upper Machkhaani. He graduated from school in Rustavi. In 1962, he enrolled in the Telavi Jacob Gogebashvili Pedagogical Institute at the Faculty of History and Philology, from which he graduated in 1967.

From 1969, he led the Pirosmani House Museum, dedicating 48 years of his life to the study of Pirosmani’s works, a testament to his unwavering dedication.

At that time, only four originals of Pirosmani were kept in the museum. Mr. Anzor bought ten works of Pirosmani from private collectors.

Under the leadership of Anzor Maksharashvili, the museum established an ethnographic department, restored a Pirosmani house, and built a new exhibition hall under the project of architect Guram Bakradze.

During his research on Pirosmani’s works, Anzor Makharashvili made a significant discovery-Pirosmani street in Tbilisi, a place of great historical and cultural importance. This street, particularly the staircase cell in 29, was where Niko Pirosmani lived and died.

On his initiative, the Tbilisi branch of Mirzaani Museum was opened there. The director searched worldwide for information published about Niko Pirosmani and hid everything in the museum’s funds. With the efforts of Mr. Anzori and poet Temur Chalabashvili the symbolic grave of Niko Firosmanashvili was opened in Mtatsminda.
