Georgia: Shalva Amiranashvili State Museum of Art, named after Irakli Farjiani Art Research and Expertise Laboratory of Art Works, named after “Carl Zeiss” in the Caucasus region, received a Primotech polarized light microscope produced by Carl Zeiss with an integrated video camera.
The event was attended by Nika Akhalbedashvili, Director of the Georgian State Museum of Art named after Shalva Amiranashvili, Head of the Art Museum Expertise Laboratory Lela Tsitsuashvili, Representative of Karl Tsaisi Foundation in Georgia and the Caucasus Region Nino Lomuashvili and employees of the laboratory.
It is worth noting that a microscope will make routine work much more accessible for museum staff; it is a convenient tool for studying solid materials.
Karl Tsaisi’s Caucasus delegation has been working successfully in Georgia for almost 15 years and has carried out many innovative and successful projects in medicine and science during this time.

Karl Zais created the first microscope, and his company, founded in 1847, is still a prominent player in the production of optical innovative technologies, medical equipment, and semiconductor systems. The Karl Zaisi Foundation, founded in 1889 by the scientist Ernst Abe, promotes scientific research, education, and innovation. The Foundation funds universities, research institutions, and various educational programs to promote technological advancement and social responsibility.
Reminder: The Ministry of Culture and Sports of Georgia, in cooperation with the Irakli Farjiani Foundation, has successfully operated the first state-of-the-art laboratory in Modern Caucasia in the Art Museum’s building.
The international standards laboratory, equipped with modern equipment, is located on an area of 542 sq.m. Its main goal and function are comprehensive expert research of art samples in Georgia and the Modern Caucasus region and authentication of works using the latest equipment and modern technologies.
There has never been a laboratory of such abilities in Georgia, and its opening is very important for Georgian art and artists to protect their works and rights. In addition, the laboratory will contribute to improving the scientific and restoration activities in the Museum of Art, scientific research of exhibits, attribution, dating, authentication, etc.
It is meaningful that this year, the painting work of the private collection “Irem” underwent expert research in the Laboratory of Expertise, and the authorship of Niko Firosmanashvili was confirmed.
