Messner explained in detail the specifics of filming a documentary in extreme conditions. He shared his life experience with Georgian and foreign listeners, describing the process of hiking the peaks and the associated emotional background. At the end of the masterclass, the messenger answered questions about his personal life, family, and business.

The event was attended by Bacho Odisharia, Head of the Department of Film Production of the National Cinema Center of Georgia, Tamar Tsulukidze, Head of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, a famous mountaineer, owner of “Golden Tserakini” Archil Badriashvili. Austrian Ambassador to Georgia Thomas Mulman, Swiss Ambassador to Georgia Heidi Grau, German Ambassador to Georgia Ernst Peter Fischer, representatives of the arts field, festival participants, local people, and tourists from different countries.

Short films competition section showed films from different countries – Czech, Armenian, Turkish and Estonian directors’ short films: “First Night”, “Sour”, “Tradition” and “Christmas Day”.

The competition section of mining-themed films is dedicated to the Romanian full-length film “Shelter.” The competition films were evaluated by the festival jury, which is made up of well-known artists from Georgia and other countries.

The Ministry of Culture and Sports and the National Cinema Center are holding the International Festival of Short Films and Mining Films in Mestia for the fourth time.

The festival opened on July 23 with Reinhold Messner’s film and will close on July 27 with Tinatin Kajrishvili’s Oscar-nominated film “Citizen Saint.”

This year, the festival’s special guest is the famous climber and director Reinhold Messner. Messner visited Mestia with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports and at the invitation of one of the festival’s founders, Khatuna Khundadze.

Messner is the first climber to climb the world’s highest peak, Everest, alone and for the first time in mountaineering history to reach the peak without oxygen. The climber is also successful in the field of culture. He is the author of documentaries such as Everest (2020), Conquering the Impossible (2018), Holy Mountain (2017), and Nanga Parbat—an essential mountain in my life, among others.

Reminder: In 2021, director and producer Khatuna Khundadze founded the Mestia Festival with the Mestia Culture and Art Center.
