Tbilisi: The rehabilitation works of the 33.6 km-long section of the Vaziani-Gombori-Telavi highway are in full swing. The highway is very important for domestic traffic movement between these three cities and the surrounding areas
It is to be noted that the main part of the artificial structures and 26 km road surface arrangement works have been completed so far and the rest is scheduled to be completed very soon as per the representative of the construction company. At the same time, Asphalt laying is actively continuing and prevention works in 35 landslide areas are at the stage of completion of which only 3 landslide sections remain to be rehabilitated completely.
Notably Gombori Road is characterized by high traffic intensity. In this way the construction work will benefit both the local population and local and international tourists. The damaged, collapsed, and deformed areas of the road could no longer ensure the safety and comfortable movement of traffic so government agencies also planned the road rehabilitation project.
According to the project plans the complete rehabilitation of the roadway, laying of asphalt-concrete pavement, rehabilitation of 6 bridges, arrangement of new water pipes and reinforced concrete lower and upper retaining walls will be covered. Also anti-landslide measures will be carried out, the sidewalk will be repaired and entrances to residents’ yards, a bus parking area and a car pavilion will be arranged.
As per the further plans road signs and horizontal markings will be carried out to facilitate travellers especially for vehicle drivers. The project is financed with 66,700,000 GEL from the state budget. The work is planned to be completed by the end of the current year.
The Georgian road construction agencies have shared glimpses of construction work and an aerial view of the ongoing project. The project seems very tough as the road’s shape is very zigzag which creates huge problems for the construction workers. On the other hand social media users laud the project. They said this will benefit the daily commuter in multiple ways including reducing journey time.
