Zugdidi: The district court of the city has sentenced two accused (mother-son) to 17-year jail term. They were accused of possessing a huge quantity of drugs illegally.
The court accepted the evidence presented by the Prosecution. During the trial the court considered  evidence and  based on the evidence presented by the prosecutor’s office pronounced its decision.
The Zugdidi District Court fully shared the evidence the prosecutor’s office presented. The evidence proved that both the accused had committed the offense of illegal purchase, storage and possession of a large number of narcotic drugs while being a member of anti-social gang.
The investigation was conducted to collect the evidence. The accumulated evidence proved that on January 6, 2024 both the accused who are citizens of a foreign country illegally kept a particularly large amount of narcotic drugs.
The accused are linked to each other as mother and son. They came to the territory of Khamiskuri village of Khobi municipality in connection with the illegal narcotics.
After receiving the information both the accused were arrested by law enforcement agencies. They were then sent to custody as preventative measures to prevent any damage to evidence related to the offense.
It is worth noting that both the accused were charged under various provisions of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The Zugdidi District Court after properly examining the evidence produced by law enforcement sent the accused behind bars under Article 18, Article 260, Part 3 “b,” Part 6 “a,” and Part 7 “a” of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
The abovementioned section of the criminal code related to illegal group purchase and possession of narcotic drugs and preparation of the keys to a particularly large amount of narcotic drugs. During its decision the court observed that 17-17 years of imprisonment was determined as they had committed the heinous crime.
The representation of the law enforcement agencies on the other hand expresses satisfaction with the court’s decision. They reiterated that such crackdown against the anti-social elements would continue in the future.
