Georgia: The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, speaks at the Summit of the Future as a part of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly on Monday.
He noted, “Three years ago, the UN Secretary-General proposed a Summit for the Future aimed at achieving global consensus to create a better future for present and a more secure future for future generations. Today, this vision has become a reality, as evidenced by our meeting today, which is to restore trust and find solutions for a better future.”
PM Irakli Kobakhidze mentions that in today’s world that is increasingly complex and rapidly evolving, achieving a just future is especially important. They face unprecedented challenges, starting from the aftermath of a pandemic to conflicts and deepening socio-economic inequality.
He also highlighted about the report by the UN Secretary-General that shows that only 17% of the Sustainable Development Goals have been achieved, which requires more action from them. In this context, the Summit for the Future is a unique opportunity to showcase the power of global cooperation and multilateralism. Georgia is ready to work together with the international community to achieve these goals, in order to fulfill the goals of 2030.
Irakli Kobakhidze said that the Pact for the Future gives the opportunity to make the success of the Summit a significant change that will bring a better future for generations to come. Georgia welcomes the adoption of the pact and look forward to its fast implementation.
Highlighting “peace”, “security” as “foundations” of human rights, sustainable development the Georgian PM said, “Peace and security are essential to ensure human rights and sustainable development. The pact will promote global Peace and security, which is based on the principles of the United Nations rules. Also, the digital agreement will be the blueprint for an open and secure digital future, where the use of technology will serve to protect human rights and global prosperity.”
At last he says that they believe that their policy framework requires taking into account the views of future generations so that the long-term impact of our actions can be taken into account and ensured. Declaration of future generations is essential to ensure their voices are heard and their interests are protected. The Summit provided a platform for strengthening international cooperation. The main task now will be to carry out our responsibilities and to create a better tomorrow.
