The rehabilitation project of Elene Akhvlediani’s house museum in the group of museums of the National Museum of Georgia, which started in early 2024 with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, has been completed and is already hosting visitors.
The project included a full refurbishment of the museum house, which was equipped with the latest museum-standard heating, cooling, and lighting systems; setting up a storage unit; and upgrading wiring and plumbing systems.
The renovated house-museum carried out a museum project of museography, the goal of which was to completely restore the first environment of Elene Akhvlediani’s residence and workshop, especially the part of the painter’s residence.
The museum’s exhibition space has been restored; with minor changes in the exhibition, the works selected for exhibition were fully displayed during the museum’s opening, as the artist exhibited in his apartment and workshop. It is that reminded that Elene Akhvlediani House Museum was opened one year after the artist’s death, in 1976.
For the renewed exhibition, more than 100 graphic works have been replaced by frames and passports. The Georgian State Museum of Art restoration-conservation laboratory, named after Shalva Amiranashvili, restored paintings and graphic works.
Some of the canvases were refurbished with new wooden frames, and the old frames were restored; a total of 44 canvases were refurbished.
Restoration-conservation of the 19th-century traditional Georgian blue table belonging to Elene Akhvlediani, which is a unique exhibit; the knobs and curtains were also renovated; the furniture of the painter was restored; the artist’s personal and memorial items were fully returned to the exhibition space.
The museum plans to hold chamber concerts and various evenings, which is a great tradition of this museum, which was founded by Elene Akhvledian herself.
LLC “Absoluteplus” rehabilitated the painter’s house museum; the cost of the works is 376 180 GEL.
