Tbilisi: An important meeting of TRACECA’s secretaries was held under the Chairmanship of Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Guram Guramishvili. This important meeting was held in capital of Georgia, Tbilisi.
It is worth to note that under the chairmanship of Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Guram Guramishvili, a meeting of national secretaries of Europe-Caucasus-Asia transport corridor (TRACECA) was held. Moreover this meeting was attended by the heads of transport agencies of the member countries of the organization.
General Secretary of TRACECA Aset Asavbaev also participated in the meeting. He gave speech about the progress of ongoing work as well. In his welcoming speech, Guram Guramishvili emphasized the importance of TRACECA and said that the Europe-Caucasus-Asia transport corridor is an important platform for improving transport, trade and economic connections between its member states.
At the same time the deputy minister noted that corridor member states are paying special attention to the development of transport-logistics infrastructure, which promotes the competitiveness of the corridor.
He also emphasized about information about the projects ongoing in Georgia such as Anaklia Deepwater Port, Railway Modernization, Baku-Tbilisi-Karsi Railway, East-West Highway and others. According to Guram Guramishvili, the development of these projects will open even more opportunities to strengthen the transit-logistics function of our country, which will also contribute to the increase of freight loads in the TRACECA corridor.
It is to be added that the national secretaries of member states also agreed that they will continue their active work to improve the efficiency and competitiveness of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia transport corridor.
It should be noted that in the 10 months of the year 2024 compared to the analogue period of the previous year, 23.5 million tons of cargo was transported to Georgia by land transport, in international shipping mode, which is 3.5% more than the analogical period of 2023.
The Georgian ports have processed a total of 11.1 million tonnes of cargo in the accounting period, which is 8.0% more than the previous year. It should be noted that in the period of January-October 2024 the number of containers transported from China/to Georgia through the middle corridor amounted to 10,848 TEU, which is 13 times higher than in the similar period of 2023.
