The Ambassador of United Kingdom to Georgia, Gareth Ward said the violence committed by law enforcement officials in Georgia are unacceptable. He called upon Georgian authorities to protect the rights of Georgian citizens also.
The British Ambassador shared his views in a video message. He released this message on Thursday, December 12, 2024 and express his serious concern in this regard as well. He also criticises the ruling party of Georgia, “Georgian Dream” for allowing anti-social elements for such illegal activities.
According to him the decision of the Georgian Dream for suspending talks over the accession to European Union till 2028 is wrong. The capital city Tbilisi along with many other cities have been facing heat of decision of Georgian Government and blaming Russian Influence on foreign policy of Georgia as well.
In his video message he said that it is very shocking to see that many people are complaining against excessive use of force by Georgian law. Georgian law enforcers have also arrested huge number of protesters for holding protest rallies in Georgia.
It is also worth to note that the Ambassador along with other things also underlined its relationship with Georgian government in future as well. He said that UK is open to reviews its relationship with Georgian government considering current decision of the Government.
While speaking further about the development, he said Georgian Government need to fix accountability of all those who are responsible for exceeding their legal power. He also referred to a report of Georgian public defender office in which the signs of physical abuses have been recorded by Georgian office of Public Defender as well.
He urged Georgia authorise to conduct an independent investigation so that all culprits can be booked. Notably if UK restrict its relations with Georgia, it will have adverse effect on Georgia in multiple way.
In the last month on November 30, 2024, the Government of United States of America have announced to suspend its talks with Georgia. Similar decision has been taken by Germany and stopes development projects and loan agreements.
