Georgia Celebrates Independence Day With Concerts and Fairs

Georgia: Georgian Independence day is observed on May 26. It commemorates the establishment of Democratic Republic of Georgia in the aftermath of the Russian revolution 1918. This day is associated with military parades, fireworks, concerts, fairs, and political speeches and ceremonies, along with several public and private events celebrating the history and culture of the nation.

Many cities and towns put on fireworks displays on Independence Day. From Rustavi to Poti, people come together to celebrate Georgia’s independence, its culture and its heroes. It is also a moment for Georgians around the nation and the world to reflect, be proud of and stand together-in tribute to the sacrifices of forebears who fought for freedom.

President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili also shared photos of the Presidential Palace, decorated on the occasion of Independence day. The Palace courtyard was lit in the colors of the Georgian flag and was organized in a festive manner.

In Rustavi, Mayor Nina Latsabidze joined residents on the city’s main square to mark the holiday. Families, children, and seniors gathered to enjoy the day in a festive atmosphere. She congratulated everyone on the most important holiday for their country. “On our main square, many people gathered, Rustavi people with their families, children and grandchildren came and celebrated a day that unites us all and gives us hope that our country will become even stronger,” stated Mayor Latsabidze.

In Ozurgeti, a concert honored both Independence Day and Veterans Day. Mayor Avtandil Talakvadze offered his congratulations to all Georgians, including compatriots living abroad. He highlighted the heroism of those who fought for the nation’s freedom and stressed the importance of preserving sovereignty.

The Council of Mtskheta Municipality hosted a ceremonial event throughout the day, drawing high-profile guests like Deputy Minister Alexander Khvatisiashvili, regional officials, and local leaders. Organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Mtskheta Municipality Hall, the celebration reflected national pride in a city steeped in historical significance.

In Poti, the Government of Georgia organized an interactive celebration in the central square. Exhibitions by various ministries and a “smart city” demonstration by the Patrol Police engaged the public, especially children. Young participants took part in fun, educational activities including passport simulations and road safety games.
