Adjara became the first region to test the execution of system change based on international standards, by implementing the Maternal and Child Health Book. The book was implemented to improve the maternal health systems and childcare programs, on Thursday, June 5, 2025.
The Ministry of Health & Social Affairs of Adjara shared the details related to the implementation of the book on its Official Facebook page. The Ministry also shared glimpses of the presentation event along with the details.
The project will be implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Refugees from the Occupied Territories of Georgia, the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Protection and the Japan Agency for International Cooperation (JICA) and will cover the years 2024-2027.
The presentation of the book on Maternal and Child Health was held in Batumi. The Minister of Health and Social Protection of Adjara, Nino Nizharadze, Japan’s Emergency and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Georgia, Hideki Ishidzuka, members of the Parliament of Georgia, representatives of the Ministry of Health and doctors attended the presentation.
According to Nino Nizharadze, by implementing a maternal and child health book they are stepping towards creating a healthy future and it is also an important step for the growth of the health sectors in the country. This practical tool will allow both parents and nurses to constantly monitor their child’s development, vaccinations, and health history.
The Minister of Health and Social Protection of Adjara stated, “With the implementation of this project in Adjara, the quality of primary health care will be increased and communication between parents and doctors will be simplified.”
She noted that healthy children are a promise of a strong country, and she appreciated the Ministry for implementing such a good program. She also added that the Ministry is ready to fully support such initiatives at the regional and national level.

In addition, it should be noted that this Mother and Child Health Book is a modern and practical tool that combines pregnancy, newborn, and young child health information into one guide.
Aim of the Program
The main aim of this innovative project is to create a quality, human-friendly, and sustainable system of services that will directly and positively impact the health of mothers and children. It is mainly established for the improvement of the living standards of the citizens of the country as a whole.
